Registration for the “Building ERC-Competitive Research: Lessons from Croatia” Workshop

University of Split and its STIM Centre of Excellence, Agency for Mobility and EU Programs, and Ministry of Science, Education and Youth—with the support of Association of ERC Grantees (AERG)—are opening registrations for the international workshop “Building ERC-Competitive Research: Lessons from Croatia,” being held under the motto “Unlocking ERC Success: Smart Preparation & Winning Strategies.”

The workshop will take place September 7-8, 2026, at Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences (MedILS) in Split.

The event is aimed at researchers, research leaders, research project management professionals, and representatives of scientific and higher education institutions from Croatia, Widening countries, and the Western Balkans.

First day’s program covers topics such as ERC’s role in funding top research, the importance of research at frontiers of knowledge, participation of Widening countries in the ERC, characteristics of competitive project proposals, and the evaluation process. Second day is dedicated to practical work, including analysis of successful and unsuccessful applications, project idea development, evaluation simulation and preparing for ERC interview, together with parallel workshops for these domains: Life Sciences (LS), Physical Sciences and Engineering (PE), and Social Sciences and Humanities (SH).

Registration is open as of today and will remain open until August 24, 2026.

Participants will be notified of their application status no later than August 27, 2026.
